Goliath Grouper are believed to be protogynous hermaphrodites, which means that it changes sex throughout their life; grouper begin as females then change into males at some point in their life.
They mate in July, August, and September and are strongly influenced by the lunar cycle. Their fertilization is external, as the females release eggs and the males release sperm into the open offshore ocean.
